If you look around you'll see that the public's perception of morality is slowly but surely moving back towards virtue and away from moral degradation. Maybe the negative publicity generated by celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton has had a positive impact on young women. Everyone knows the old saying, "Everyone has a purpose, even if it is only to serve as a warning to others."
Recently, a fashion show was held at a Sacramento resort club that showcased modestly themed clothing from casual outfits to formal wear. Local churches that sponsored the event provided teenagers to model the fashions. Modest clothing like this leaves more to the imagination and allows young women to put their religious beliefs into practice. You'll find that the number of retail stores and online websites that offer more modest fashions is growing.
As a way to encourage chastity, purity rings were introduced in the 1990s. These rings are reminders of one's commitment to remain pure and are worn on the ring finger of the left hand; when a person marries, he or she replaces the purity ring with a wedding ring. Sometimes the rings are embossed with the words "True Love Waits" or decorated with embedded crosses or gemstones. The rings are worn by both genders, either on chains around the neck or on one's finger. Purity rings are still popular today, even after almost twenty years, and they continue to be sold online and in some retail stores.
Chastity, for its own sake, is also making a comeback in families, despite the sexual antics shown in the media. Many parents are teaching their children to ignore the messages found in the media and to embrace chastity. Ironically, remaining celibate is a way for teens to rebel against their peers and to stand out. This is especially true for teens that grew up in families that promoted "free love" and were later introduced to Christian values by friends.
This chastity movement has been deemed "New Virginity," and isn't just for teenagers. Many adults who have been sexually active in the past have also committed to "secondary virginity". While you can't change your past, you can commit your life to a purer and healthier lifestyle as you wait for the perfect mate that God has sent for you.
Just as polio was wiped out in one generation after the vaccine was introduced, many sexually transmitted diseases can be eliminated if today's generation decides to uphold purity and chastity. Granted, it may take a while to get society to follow the purity movement. Those who wear modest clothing and purity rings as symbols of their chaste Christian lives are ahead of the game.
