Building on previous efforts to woo the youngest of Internet users, Lycos Inc. Wednesday rolled out Lycos
Zone, an educational Web site for kids.
The site targets children ages 3 to 12.
Lycos (LCOS) Zone includes free access to the Lycos SearchGuard filtering
technology, which also allows parents to disable e-mail and chat.
A "Homework Zone" educational site, divided by grade level, has been
created by a board of editors and teachers. An kids' entertainment channel and a separate section to help parents and teachers protect children from objectionable content on the Web are also offered.
"Lycos is dedicated to making the Web a family-friendly experience by
providing tools, services and content that harness the power of the
Internet in safe and constructive ways," said Bob Davis, Lycos Inc. president
and chief executive officer.
