For me, I used to be into Punk, then hit Grunge. Then I lsitened to metal.
NOW, I listen to all three. I have a much broader music taste now, so I don't get sick of anything easy now. I've even added Nu Metal and Pop Punk to my list.
And I hated Linkin Park, but I listened to them again and they're actually not that bad. I believe in giving every band a fair chance.
So, R&P, how have you evolved musically since around June?
I have become more and more eclectic.
I was already way into Bob Dylan, but got even more into him this summer. (Went to see him live.) I also started listening to more Pink Floyd. Uh let's see...also I am really into Zappa now. I loved him before, but now I just can't get enough of it. Also found out about a newer band, Robert Randolph and the family band check em out at: www.robertrandolph.net Oh also started listening to more Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Also am starting to get more and more into funk...and soul! James Brown is amazing!
It hasn't changed. I spent the summer driving around in a dusty Dodge Ram on a bunch of gravel roads, so we had a lot of road trip music.
CDs that were played:
The Best Of Cheap Trick
The Wall by Pink Floyd
Heartwork by Carcass
The Best Of Judas Priest
Stay Hungry by Twisted Sister
Snakes & Arrows by Rush
I'm sure that's not the answer you wanted...
my music taste has been the same for years and years
I have always liked rock music, all types except for emo, but last spring and summer, I found myself starting to listen to more and more country. I began to realize that many modern country songs were now using lots of guitars, and to me the sound reminded me of some classic southern rock like Skynyrd or The Allman Brothers. I still listen to a little bity of country, but not as much anymore as I have returned to mainly listening to just rock.
I've been listening to a little bit of just about everything for quite a few years--country, rock, blues, jazz and even bluegrass. Of course, at certain times I'll be in the mood for a certain genre, though I usually listen to either country, rock or blues, in most cases.
Well, last year September, I used to listen to SOME rap / pop / mainstream stuff.
But I listened to a LOT of Foo FIghters, some RHCP, and some Nirvana.
Now looking at this year before summer.
I was NOT into Children of Bodom or like those metal bands 6 months ago ish?
But now, I love them.
Same with like metal, I didn't like metal like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, etc.
Ummm...not much. I wasn't really focused on music during the summer, I was at summer camp the whole time. I have been listening to more rap, though.
I've started listening to a lot less pop-rock ish stuff like MCR and FOB and gotten into a lot of classic rock. And Nirvana and Bob Dylan and realy just a lot of older music.
Let me just take a look here in my "growth of musical taste" journal...
I used to only like The Beatles, but I fell in love with the Who around May or so..
and I actually Like LP now, like you ^_^
At the beginning of summer I was psyched about 70's rock, throughout the summer I joined the Nirvana club and like almost all alternative music now. I listen to about everything that's rock anything else (with exceptions) can go crawl under a rock and die.
Before summer: Jonas Brothers and ANYTHING on the radio including rap, and pop. [Ew.]
During Summer: No rap. No pop. the only pop was Jonas Brothers. I started to like screamo and All Time Low and Cute is what we aim for and bands like that.
After Summer: JOnas Brothers, owl city....atl ciwwaf screamo stuff... Indie type stuff like Never shout never... and it's snowwy here and I like frank sinatra when it's snowwy.
I'v decided not to be put off by Bring Me The Horizon's haircuts, and instead listen to their kickass music.
I'v also grown to respect Slash's awesome guitar work for GNR.
Started listening to Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Bjork, Thom Yorke, The Vines, Sufjan Stevens, Cat Power, and a ton of other artists (about 30 more).
Sold my Paramore, Evanescence, Flyleaf, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, and Drake Bell CD's from the summer previous to Christmas.
It was a huge jump.....
Nope. Metal it has stayed and ever after next summer it will probably be the same still.
well since the summer i have had this wierd facination with raves, even though im not old enough.... but anyways i still listen to alternative and rock but i started listining to a lot of electronica, dance music......
well, i got more *into* my favorite bands, nothing really's changed though
This summer was weird for me musically. I primarily listened to Metallica and CoB for probably all of June, then July came around and it was mostly Metallica, Between the Buried and Me, and Whitechapel, then that changed to nearly all Motley Crue and Sixx A.M. in August to get myself pumped for the concert, and September through now has remained about the same, with me looking constantly for new bands.
I started with mostly thrash and melodeath in June, and now in October, I know a lot more melodeath bands than I did in June. All other bands I mentioned though I've known for quite a long time.
In July was when I joined Y!A, so that's really when musical taste really started to grow. I used to listen to the Beatles, Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and all those other disney pop artists.
Now I'm proud to say I listen to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Rolling Stones, and Queen.
Yes my tastes have expanded especially with metal and death metal. I will admit I used to listen to the old PATD! I actually thought they were amazing. Then I came here and so many new genres were introduced to me that I can't even believe I used to like them. A lot of the bands that I grew up with stayed with me and bands that I have loved for many years have also stayed with me for many years. I am very open minded and definitely I will say my tastes have changed somewhat for the better. I thank my contacts and many other R&P users for their awesome recommendations and awesome taste in music.
Well, nothing's really changed. I guess I got into Muse more, but I had already listened to them. And I started listening to Coldplay a little bit. But, nothing much has changed since June.
EDIT: Beatles Manic, awesome change.
Around when school ended, I LOVED post-hardcore. Over the summer, I became a huge fan of Bring Me the Horizon, which made me like deathcore, and music like that more. And now ever since around when school started, I've been liking melodic death metal because of yahoo answers :D
That's about when I started coming on R&P, and I must say that my *taste* hasn't really changed... I still look for the same qualities in bands... although I am more accepting of bands that sound... new (I don't know how else to describe it). What has changed, however, is that I am waaaay more open-minded, and I know so much more about music... I have discovered so many amazing little-known bands through this site and my own searches it has provoked. Actually, before I came on here I was feeling a bit hopeless musically... I thought I knew everything good already or that I would know it soon. I thought I would discover it all before I died, and I wouldn't be able to enjoy music later in life because I would be bored with it. Now I realize that was a completely ignorant and idiotic thought. I'd barely scratched the surface, and even now that scratch is hardly any deeper. I'm content to think that I will die before I have made every possible musical discovery.
nothing changed much
i got way more into the who
discoverd woodstock
which led me to discover crosby still nash and you
edit:
and young, not you
haha
It hasn't changed that much. I've gotten into "softer" stuff (Once soundtrack, Raising Sand album) and started to get into Pink Floyd, but really not that much. Oh! And I don't dislike Jimi Hendrix anymore. I bought "Are You Experienced?" and I'm enjoying that. I have a feeling, though, that early metal (Black Sabbath) is on my musical horizon.
And if it wasn't possible, my love of the Who has been upped. Haha!
Well, not much. I have been around music enough so that genres are no longer new and interesting, but individual releases. I have been listening to Punk as my primary for about 15 years now. So that's not going to change over the course of a couple months. Although, I do have more Psychobilly in my collection now than I did last year...so there you go!
I've listened to the same music for years, so it hasn't really changed...And especially since the summer which was only about 4 months ago...considering it's only October...I guess I'm just old
