| Where can I find information about the book The Pearl by John
Steinbeck. I am looking for cliff notes, information comparing and
contrasting the characters in the book. A critical thinking type of
site in relationship to the book. Help
There are many Cliff's Notes - type sites discussing The Pearl, of
which
he Book Rags, MonkeyNotes, and SparkNotes seem to be among the most
comprehensive.
Book Rags at http://www.bookrags.com/notes/pea/PART1.htm contains
summaries and discussions of the characters, as well as a message
board.
MonkeyNotes site at:
http://www.pinkmonkey.com/booknotes/monkeynotes/pmPearl02.asp .
Spark Notes ( http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/pearl/ ) also has a
detailed study guide and a Pearl message board. This site also
includes a Pearl message board ( http://mb.sparknotes.com/mb.epl?b=529
).
Other information, including summary and information on Steinbeck, is
at Barron's: http://www.pinkmonkey.com/booknotes/barrons/pearl.asp .
Other sites include:
The site http://www.teachervision.com/lesson-plans/lesson-3760.html
contains a proposed lesson plan for teaching from The Pearl, including
discussion and analysis of the characters.
The ClassicNote site
http://www.gradesaver.com/ClassicNotes/Titles/pearl/ contains summary
and analysis of the chapters.
The site http://www.laspaceview.com/student_guide_1_the_pearl.htm is a
"student guide" that also discusses each of the chapters and
characters.
A Penguin reading guide site at
http://www.penguinputnam.com/static/packages/us/academic/resources/guides/pearl/frame.htm
discusses specifically the relationship of The Pearl to folklore and
storytelling.
Some other links are included in the Web English Teacher at
http://www.webenglishteacher.com/steinbeck.html .
The site http://www.antistudy.com/guides/Pearl.php includes lists of
book notes for The Pearl.
A sample essay is at http://www.literatureclassics.com/essays/361/ but
it isn't very good.
Search Strategy:
"pearl john steinbeck"
"pearl john steinbeck analysis"
"pearl steinbeck criticism"
"pearl steinbeck criticism analysis"
There is also a 2001 movie on the Pearl:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0245350 . I'm mentioning this because it is
sometimes interesting to compare and contrast the director's
interpretation of the characters with one's own. Unfortunately, I do
not know where to acquire a copy of this movie. There is also a 1948
film, directed by Emilio Fernandez, based on the novel; and, sorry to
say, I don't know where to find that either.
You might want to look at the hardcopy resource "Readings on The
Pearl" edited by Jill Karson, Greenhaven Press, 1999 . There is also a
CD-ROM, available, e.g., from Amazon http://www.amazon.com "Pearl and
the Red Pony CD-ROM"; however, it is from 1996 and does not seem to be
very popular.
Amazon also sells a downloadable "John Steinbeck's The Pearl: A study
guide from Gales' Novels for Students".
I hope this is helpful; please do not hesistate to ask for
clarification. The Pearl by John Steinbeck MovieBook Activity - TeachersPayTeachers.com:: Great activity to use after reading the novel The Pearl. The Pearl by John Steinbeck: Movie/Book Activity. Product Rating: Not yet rated http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Pearl-by-JoBook-Activity/DescriptionHOME |
