There is a kid's magazine that a young relative of mine subscribes to and in its last month's issue it gave a shout out "Happy Birhtday to Mr. Michael Jackson!" It was really cute and my nephew was also happy.
If other kids want to be ignorant about that, let it be their problem. Just be happy you find inspiration in them.
I don't think he is predatory. He may have problems in his childhood and he knows what it is like to be hurt as a child.
