I have a small background in drama arts and local movies, but I've never produced a play before. There's a theater not too far from where I live and I'd love to present a biblical version of Jesus Christ Superstar but I don't know where to start. I realize there's websites that explain this, but I'm a simple guy and was hoping some one who's actually produced JCS or knew someone who did could post here and tell me in a short and easy way how to do it.
BTW: I can't sing and I rather not deal with the headache of having to direct, (even though I will put in some of my own creative input.) so I thought producing would be the best thing. The reason why I want to do this is for the simple reason that I love the 1973 movie and want to expose it to more people so they can hopefully fall inlove with it as well.
Thank you for reading.
You first have to get permission to perform the play - the rights holders for JCS are the Really Useful Group whose website is at www.reallyuseful.com and there are links there where you can apply online. It will cost you, so you need to figure out where the funds are coming from. Once you've got permission, you need to book dates at the theatre, find a director, musical director and choreographer, plus set, costume, lighting and sound designers, cast the show, find your crew, and get the show on. The money is going to be your biggest hurdle - are you planning on paying the actors, or will it be an amateur production?
