Shortly after launching their Cairo office, Sun Microsystems unveiled its
vision for a networked data center in Egypt, including focused assistance
to bring Egyptian companies to the Internet.
Sun plans to introduce the latest Sun software such as Java, Jini, Solaris
7, iPlanet and Enterprise workgroup servers to the region via its solution
center.
Sun also recently hosted a series of Java technology seminars during the
Comdex Cairo '99 trade show.
At the same event, Sun Microsystems Middle East officially launched the Sun
Developers Connection program to provide developers with direct access to
Sun's information and software support.

Membership in Sun Developer Connection is free, and Sun plans to target
software developers who want to develop, deploy and manage applications for
the Solaris operating system and the Java platform.
According to Hossam Nassar, Egypt country manager of Sun Middle East, the
new program was inspired by recent IDC
studies which indicate that the IT community in Egyptian exceeds 60,000
individuals.
Sun partners in the Middle East include Arabic software provider Knowledge
View, Cisco systems, and electronic banking company Brokat.
