CNET Inc. Tuesday bought technology product information provider GDT, S.A. in a cash and stock deal worth $50 million.
Switzerland-based GDT maintains a multi-language database indexing product images, descriptions and specifications. CNET plans to use the service for its online shopping section and its advertisers.
For each SKU, users will see up to 600 unique product attributes, including product information, photo images, and product comparisons, as well as information about local resellers and availability.
"We have developed our database to be the world's most complete resource for buyers and sellers of computer and technology products," said Albert de Heer, GDT's chairman and CEO. "By joining forces with CNET we will now have the perfect platform to widely distribute this service and continue to grow it on a global scale."
